Introduction
Aloha All, My name is Corilynn Mucha and this is my third semester at West Oahu. I am receiving my BA in Early Childhood. I currently have AS degree in early childhood education from Hawaii Community College. I am from the small town of Pahoa, located on the big island of Hawaii where I am currently living with my family. I have a three year old child and his name is Daymian. I originally started in the ECEC program to take as an elective for my Liberals in AS. However, after completing the very first class ECED 105, I have gotten pregnant and was a bit scared to becoming a single mom so I have decided to take more classes. After the third class, I fell completely in love with the courses because it has shown me how important children are in our life and how important we are to children. With that said, I continued my education and graduated last year. Before graduation I had applied for a lead teaching position for the YWCA in Hilo Hawaii. The night of graduation the director called me and stated that I had gotten my position. I remember that as if it happened yesterday because I was crying while excepting my diploma. Now I am currently the lead teacher of the young three old classroom at the YWCA. Although my son is my greatest accomplishment in life, working with children is my greatest reward in life because though I teach them about the world we live in, they show their perspective of the world we live in. and how wonderful the world can be.
Aloha Cori, and welcome to ECED 440! It's nice to be working with you again. That must have been so exciting to get the position on the same night of graduation - what a validating feeling! I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences using documentation and assessment in your work at the YWCA. What have been some practices you've used that you found successful? What areas have you struggled with? Have you used any formal assessment systems, like TS Gold of Brigance (the ones we'll be examining the first two weeks)? I'm excited to hear more about it as we continue!
