Paley, Vivian (1988) discusses how children use fantasy play as a way to come over fear, she states that children  who have an experience with the perception of danger and or loss will often portray fear into their fantasy play in order to prove that they are not afraid which will help them to conquered their own fears. The concept of  fear can be linked to all domains of development because fear is a natural emotional that all humans feel at one time or another.  I feel that this was an excellent choice of book to read in class because it captures a teachers methods of assessments without using a standardized method such as the four screeners we have previously learn about. While teachers are observing Fantasy play, children often incorporate skill building on their own terms. They use Social/ emotional concepts, Cognitive concepts, Language ,Physical development and creativity without even realizing it. This allows the assessment from the teacher to be authentic...

Aloha Kristin, I hope you don't mind, but I have copied and pasted your questions so that I can answer them to my best knowledge. So with that said you have asked what kind of documents you show the parents? Do you have descriptions of the child's documents? How effective do you think this kind of communication is? How do you think it fosters more/fewer conversations with parents? In TS Gold  when you first sign in the system there is icon's on top of the screen one of the icons is Teach you selected that icon and there is your site to do lesson plans, however in the teach section there is also an icon that states family conferences, here is where you can go and share information with families such as assessments charts and anecdotes on the children. As I have stated TS Gold is not as easy as everyone thinks it is because you have to do a lot of searching yet once you achieve mastering the system it can be a real time saver when it comes to assessments. I believe th...

Readiness

Image
Readiness is a term that society uses in regards to a child's capability of displaying cognitive and social concepts in an academic setting.  Beth Hatcher, Joyce Nuner,  Jean Paulsel (2012) states that Kindergarten readiness is a complex idea linked to multiple meanings and factors. Chronological age, developmental stage, specific academic and social skills, and home/school connections are associated with readiness. Although communities may view readiness at different levels the concept that still remains is that if a child is ready to fuction at the next level of education.  As ways to help children achieve cognitive skills and socials skills are through preschools who have a set curriculum and offer resources to the families.  Council of Chief State School Officers (2011) states that m any states have developed comprehensive early learning standards to define children’s developmental progress and expectatio...

developmental screeners.

As an ECE professionals our main purpose is to provide a safe and nurturing setting that will help children to be successful in development. Away that teachers can obtain information on development on a child is through collecting data. Though there are serval different ways to obtain data on children , the one that is most common are called screeners. Screeners are in sense test that helps and shows the child's development. In the book  Schooling for Measure   by Alfie Kohn (2015) states the purpose of test and how taken test effect people . For ECE programs, some screeners can be useful because they can give useful information to the teacher and or parent. One piece of information that I have found is from the Brigance. Brigance website states that after the screening is done they provide the what to do next for the child. I find that I as a teacher struggle with the "what to do next" category. So by the screeners providing that will help teachers such as myself ...

Introduction

Aloha All, My name is Corilynn Mucha and this is my third semester at West Oahu. I am receiving my BA in Early Childhood. I currently have  AS degree in early childhood education from Hawaii Community College. I am from the small town of Pahoa, located on the big island of Hawaii where I am currently living with my family. I have a three year old child and his name is Daymian. I originally started in the ECEC program to take as an elective for my Liberals in AS. However, after completing the very first class ECED 105, I have gotten pregnant and was a bit scared to becoming a single mom so I have decided to take more classes. After the third class, I fell completely in love with the courses because it has shown me how important children are in our life and how important we are to children. With that said, I continued my education and graduated last year. Before graduation I had applied for a lead teaching position for the YWCA in Hilo Hawaii. The night of graduation the director cal...
